Belgian government confirmed to use NEDC 2.0 until 2020

Until recently, cars were tested according to the NEDC test procedure. Since 1 September 2017, the new WLTP test procedure for new models has been introduced in Europe. From September 1st this year, all existing models must be WLTP registered, with the exception of widening stock models.

The WLTP test procedure measures far more accurate emission values and fuel consumption than the old NEDC test. As a result, many petrol and diesel vehicles will record higher CO2 emissions.

As in most European countries, the emission values in Belgium are linked to the deductibility of the car costs for companies and thus the result of the new WLTP test procedure has an immediate impact on the TCO of your fleet.

Foreseeing the hard transition period between the two test cycles, Europe has created another value, designed to soften the transition. Called NEDC 2.0, it is obtained from the WLTP value. It allows to reduce the effect of increasing CO2 levels on the car tax system.

The Belgian government now confirmed that it will use these NEDC 2.0 values until 2020 meaning the decision to use the WLTP test cycle’s data for the tax system is therefore pushed back to after the next elections.

It may be interesting or necessary to make other choices for your fleet. We are happy to map out the consequences of the WLTP for your fleet.
